Universal Credit is a single means tested benefit payable to working age people that will be paid to you if your income falls below a certain level. Payable in and out of work.
The introduction to Universal Credit will be staggered over a number of years in stages, this process is called migration.
At each stage new claims are initially accepted from single jobseekers, then couples and eventually families with children.
Universal Credit (UC) will eventually replace the following benefits and tax credits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Housing Benefit
